e-Commerce can cut bank’s costs
Deputy Governor of the Bangladesh Bank SK Shur Chowdhury distributes blankets to the distressed freedom fighters and the poor on behalf of First Security Islami Bank Limited in Natore Saturday.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman said the central bank has introduced several payment opportunities in the country through installing automated payment and clearing system under its e-Commerce management.
“Through this management system, a customer can collect goods, service and appliances without physical attendance,” he said adding, this has reduced bank’s expense to a great extent.”
The central bank chief made the remarks while inaugurating at the ‘e-Commerce Week 2013’ at a hotel in Dhaka Saturday. The week-long programme was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Bank and the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS).
Dr Atiur said Bangladesh Bank has made a big change in the country’s banking sector through introducing Bangladesh Automated Clearing House (BACH) and Bangladesh Electronic Fund Transfer Network (BEFTN).
Ashok elected Standard Bank vice-chairman
Ashok Kumar Saha
Ashok Kumar Saha, a businessman, industrialist and sponsor director of Standard Bank Limited, has recently been elected vice-chairman of the board of directors of the bank.
Ashok who hails from Chittagong obtained BSc degree in electrical and computer engineering in 1992 from Ohio University,
USA and MBA from University of New Haven, Connecticut, USA in 1995, said a news release.
He is also a director of NGS Group
Bank Asia donates warm clothes
Bank Asia Ltd under its CSR program has distributed around 12,000 pieces of warm clothes among the severely cold-hit poor and marginalized people in different parts of the country in last couple of weeks.
The warm cloths were distributed in Rajshahi, Bogra, Ishurdi (Pabna), Mohadevpur (Natore), Chatkhil (Noakhali) and Jessore with the help of the Bank's rural branches.
In response to the initiative of Bangladesh Bank, Bank Asia contributed 100 pieces of blankets to the regulatory body as a token for distribution among destitute. Earlier,
Bank Asia contributed 10,000 pieces of blankets to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund as a member of BAB.
