e-Commerce can cut bank’s costs

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman said the central bank has introduced several payment opportunities in the country through installing automated payment and clearing system under its e-Commerce management.
“Through this management system, a customer can collect goods, service and appliances without physical attendance,” he said adding, this has reduced bank’s expense to a great extent.”
The central bank chief made the remarks while inaugurating at the ‘e-Commerce Week 2013’ at a hotel in Dhaka Saturday. The week-long programme was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Bank and the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS).
Dr Atiur said Bangladesh Bank has made a big change in the country’s banking sector through introducing Bangladesh Automated Clearing House (BACH) and Bangladesh Electronic Fund Transfer Network (BEFTN).
