Bangladesh Bank will announce its half-yearly monetary policy (January-June) of the current 2012-13 financial year on January 31.

The central bank governor, Dr Atiur Rahman, will announce the policy at a press conference at the Bangladesh Bank Jahangir Alam conference hall at 3pm, BB general manager AFM Asaduzzaman said on Wednesday.

Four BB deputy governors—M Abul Quasem, Abu Hena M Razee Hassan, Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury and Nazneen Sultana—will be present at the press conference apart from the governor’s advisers.

Meanwhile, the BB governor has held a series of meetings with economists, bankers, former governors, trade body leaders and other stakeholders to finalise the policy.

Md Abul Shahjahan

Md Abul Shahjahan has recently been promoted to the post of additional managing director of Jamuna Bank.

 Shahjahan started his banking career as a probationary officer with the then United Bank — presently Janata Bank — in 1970,

said a news release. He also served Mutual Trust Bank,  and Mercantile Bank Social Islami Bank in different capacities, the release added.

The conference reviewed overall progress of the year 2012 and chalked out various programmes for achieving yearly target.

Special emphasis was given on consumer banking including credit card, SME banking, global transaction service, capital market services and islamic banking besides corporate banking.
