Krishi Bank gets new chairman

Alauddin A Majid has joined Bangladesh Krishi Bank as its chairman, the bank said in a statement yesterday.

Prior to the new assignment, he was a director of the bank and also served the bank as its managing director.

He was also the managing director of BASIC Bank Ltd, according to the statement.

Majid, who obtained his bachelor's degree from the American University of Beirut and the master's degree from the University of Sydney, began his career at Bangladesh Krishi Bank.

IBBL Shari’ah body meet

Sheikh Moulana Mohammad Qutubuddin, Chairman of the Shari’ah Supervisory Committee of IBBL, presides over a Shari'ah Supervisory Committee of the bank in Dhaka recently.

Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited organised a Shari’ah Supervisory Committee meeting at Islami Bank Tower in Dhaka recently.

Sheikh Moulana Mohammad Kutubuddin, Chairman of the Committee and President of Baitush Sharaf Anjuman-E-Ittehad Bangladesh presided over the meeting, said a press release.

Mufti Sayeed Ahmad, Vice-Chairman of the Committee and Mufti and Muhaddis of Al Jamiatus Siddikiah Darul Ulum (Madrasha-e-Furfura Sharif), Prof. Dr. Abu Bakr Rafique, Member Secretary of the Committee and VC of International Islamic University Chittagong, attended the meeting.

Principal Mohammad Serajul Islam, Former Principal, Madrasah-E-Mesbahul Ulum, Md. Abdur Rakib, Former Executive President of the Bank, Mufti Shamsuddin (Zia), Muhaddis of Zamea Islamia, Patia,

Abdus Shaheed Naseem, President, Bangladesh Quran Shikkha Society, Dr. Hasan Muhammad Moinuddin, Associate Professor of International Islamic University, Chittagong, Dr. ASM Toriqul Islam were also present.

Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Managing Director of IBBL was attended the meeting.

NBL organises training course

Standard Chartered Bank reopens office in Myanmar

Standard Chartered Bank recently reopened its representative office in Yangon as the only major international bank.

StanChart has banking operation in 10 ASEAN (Association of South East Association Nations) markets, said a press release.

The Bank believes it can play a key role in helping Myanmar to re-integrate into the global business community by acting as a catalyst for trade and providing technical assistance to support the country in developing a strong and vibrant financial sector.

Peter Sands, Chief Executive of Standard Chartered Bank group said “The growth of local economies in South East Asia is driving trade and economic success across the region.

We believe our presence will help our global network of Wholesale Banking clients to tap into these opportunities, and contribute to Myanmar’s efforts to grow in a sustainable manner.”

The representative office is located at Centrepoint Towers at the intersection of Sule Pagoda Road and Merchant Road and will be headed by Tina Singhsacha, StanChart Country Head for Myanmar.
