UCB opens branch at Tejgaon

Dhaka, Dec 27: United Commercial Bank Limited (UCB) opened its 104th branch at Tejgaon, Dhaka on Monday. The Chairman of UCB M A Hashem inaugurated the new branch as the Chief Guest. Vice-Chairman of the bank Kazi Enamul Hoque and Director Qamrun Nahar were also present in the opening ceremony.

The Managing Director of the Bank,  M. Shahjahan Bhuiyan, Additional Managing Director and Deputy Managing Directors: Mr. Mirza Mahmud Rafiqur Rahman, Shahed Jalal Chowdhury and distinguished guests were also present in the ceremony. 
The inauguration was preceded by a special “Doa Mehfil” inside the branch premises.

Islami Bank decides to enhance authorised capital to Tk 20b

The board of directors of Islami Bank has decided to enhance authorised capital of the Bank from Tk 10.00 billion to Tk 20.00 billion subject to approval of shareholders in the Extra General Meeting (EGM).

The Bank has also informed that the Board of Directors of the Bank has decided to enhance authorised Capital of Islami Bank Securities Limited, a subsidiary company of the bank, from Tk 1.00 billion to Tk 10.00 billion and paid up capital from Tk 300 million to Tk 5.00 billion subject to approval of regulatory authorities.

AAA Consultants & Financial Advisers Ltd will act as the issue manager while Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) is the trustee.

IFC to train local bankers to improve skills

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, will work with the Bangladesh Bank Training Academy to train local bankers on managing credit risks and to encourage adoption of best practices.

In order to meet this goal, IFC launched a five-day training program at Bangladesh Bank Training Academy in the city yesterday to provide the bankers a strong foundation on international best practices in credit risk management, said a press release.

The training will be offered for about a year, the news release added.

PBL opens branch at Dania

Pubali Bank Limited has inaugurated its 393rd branch at Dania, Dhaka recently with online facilities.

Chairman, board of directors of Pubali Bank Ltd Hafiz Ahmed Mazumder MP inaugurated the branch as chief guest while directors Ahmed Shafi Chowdhury and Muhammed Kabiruzzaman Yaqub were present as special guests.

Managing director of the bank Helal Ahmed Chowdhury presided over the inauguration function, said a press release.

Director Ahmed Shafi Chowdhury also delivered speech at the function. They urged all to take banking services through the Pubali Bank.

Deputy managing director of PBL Safiul Alam Khan Chowdhury, general managers MA Zubayer, Sk Golam Mohammad, regional head of Dhaka south region Md Halimuzzaman, local elite and renowned businessmen were also attended in the function.

BB employees to draw salaries from DBBL ATM booths

The employees of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) can draw their salaries from the automated teller machine (ATM) booths of Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL), replacing the old token system for salary drawing that led the officials to stand in long queues.

BB Governor Dr Atiur Rahman formally inaugurated this technology-based system by opening a co-branded (BB-DBBL) ATM booth at the central bank’s own premises yesterday.

While speaking at the inaugural function, Dr Atiur Rahman said the new system was launched to replace the token system for salary drawing of the BB employees with a modern system on the way to modernise and simplify the central bank’s activities.

BB Governor said the central bank already inked agreements with the country’s two mobile phone operators- Banglalink and City Cell to introduce mobile banking soon in the efforts to take the banking services at the doorsteps of the people.

The mobile banking system will simplify the drawing of teachers’ salaries and the allowances of the freedom fighters and that for the elderly people, he added.

The central bank’s governor profusely lauded the role of DBBL for adopting modern and latest IT technology for rendering modern banking services to the doorsteps of the customers.

Deputy Governor of BB Murshid Kuli Khan and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the DBBL Board of Directors Sayem Ahmed, among others, were also present at the inaugural function.

Sayem Ahmed said the policies and support of BB helped the banking system of the country to be digitised.
