Standard Chartered Bank organized a workshop last week on "Financial Risk Management" for Dhaka Export Processing Zone (EPZ) client entities. The workshop was aimed at shedding light on the national economy and its implications for the business concerns. The event took place at the Dhaka EPZ Investors' Club where more than 50 representatives from various EPZ companies were present. Mr. Abrar A. Anwar, Managing Director , Head of Origination & Client Coverage, Co-Head Wholesale Banking, Bangladesh gave the welcome speech.

ICB teams up with Hotel The Cox

ICB Islamic Bank Limited has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hotel The Cox Today, an exclusive hotel in Cox’s Bazar,  with a view to provide special service for card holders and privileged customers of the Bank, says a press release. Under this agreement, Hotel The Cox will provide special discount to ICB customers on different services.

Villy Vellayappan, chief operating officer, ICB Islamic Bank Ltd, and Mohiuddin Khan Khokon, director sales and marketing of Hotel the Cox Today Dhaka, signed the agreement.

Mamoon Mahmood Shah, managing director and chief executive officer of ICB Islamic Bank, and other officials of the Bank were also present.

IFIC disburses loans among women entrepreneurs

The International Finance and Investment Corporation (IFIC) bank has disbursed Tk 31 lakhs loans to 16 associations of ‘Joyita’, a sales outlet of women entrepreneurs from 180 associations from grassroots level to market their products. Bangladesh Bank supervised the programme.

Gradually, the IFIC bank will disburse more loans to the rest of the 180 member associations of Joyita, Dr Atiur Rahman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) said while speaking during a loan disbursement programme at a city shopping mall Thursday.

The Governor mentioned that BB has disbursed Tk 4,500 crore at 10 percent interest among 35,000 women
entrepreneurs under 130 categories through banks and financial institutions during the last two years.

Directorate of Women Affairs launched ‘Joyita,’ an exceptional sales outlet of 139 stalls under Women Entrepreneur Development Initiative project. The organisation has been marketing products manufactured by grassroots level women entrepreneurs since November 16, 2011 at RAPA Plaza in  Dhanmondi.

The government bears 60 percent of the stall’s rents while women entrepreneurs pay the rest 40 percent. However, the entrepreneurs enjoy the total sales proceeds.

Prime Bank takes part in London ‘Boishakhi Mela’

Prime Bank Limited and it’s fully owned subsidiary PBL Exchange (UK) Limited participated in the 14th annual Boishakhi Mela – Trade Fair & Expo, organised by BMCT at Weavers Field, London, UK, recently, says a press release.

The two-day extravaganza was visited by thousands of people from the Bangladeshi community to celebrate the Bangla New Year 1419. Products and services of Prime Bank and PBL Exchange (UK) were introduced to the visitors. In addition to general fair goers, there were also community leaders who visited the stall.
