Bank Asia gets new DMD
Economic Reporter :Mamun-ur Rashid has joined as the new Deputy Managing Director of Bank Asia recenly. Prior to joining in Bank Asia he was Senior Executive Vice President (SEVP) in National Credit and Commerce (NCC) Bank Ltd.A veteran in the Banking industry, Rashid has multifarious experience in the Corporate and international Banking arena in both local and multinational banks. Mamun-ur Rashidcompleted his Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Marketing from the University of Dhaka and Master Degree in Economics from Northern University, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He embarked on banking career in1986 as Management Trainee with Bank of Credit and Commerce International (Overseas) Ltd which, therefore, was taken over by Eastern Bank Ltd. In 1995 he joined in the Credit Africa Bank, Zambia as an expatriate Banker.

Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) signed an agreement with Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in the city on Thursday.
Under the agreement students of MIST can make their admission fees through DBBL Nexus Gateway by using DBBL Nexus Debit Card, DBBL Mobile Banking Account, MasterCard and Visa card, said a press release.
Colonel Gazi Md Ahsanuzzaman, Director Administration, MIST and Abul Kashem Md. Shirin, Deputy Managing Director, DBBL signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. This initiative will make the payment of students and guardians of MIST easy and convenient as they can pay their admission fees from any part of the country or anywhere of the world sitting at their home or office.
Major General Md. Abdul Quadir, Commandant of MIST, Sayem Ahmed, Chairman of Dutch-Bangla Bank, KS Tabrez, Managing Director of DBBL and other senior executives from both the organisations were also present on the occasion.
WB, BB joint press conference today
The Bangladesh Bank and the World Bank will jointly organise a press conference at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital at 4pm today.
The press conference will be arranged on the occasion of a five-day official visit of World Bank Chief Economist Dr. Kaushik Basu, who arrived in the capital on December 12, 2015.
He is visiting Dhaka at the invitation of Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman.
After a meeting with Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Monday, Dr Basu said, Bangladesh would be able to attain 8 per cent GDP (gross domestic product) growth in the next three years provided it increases its investment-to-GDP ratio to 34.0 percent.
RAKUB to expedite remittance collection, transfer activities
RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) and Xpress Money Services Limited here on Sunday afternoon jointly inaugurated a three-day road show and awareness campaign in order to enhance the foreign remittance collection and transfer activities.
The launching ceremony was held at RAKUB Head Office premises here on Sunday afternoon with participation of high officials and others concerned of both the organizations, reports BSS.
RAKUB Managing Director Monzur Ahmed, General Manager (Operations) Reaz Uddin Miah, General Manager (Administration) Abdul Latif, Deputy General Manager (Foreign Remittance) Jahangir Hossain Pramanik and Jakaria Mahmud and Abu Bashar Ansary from Xpress Money Services Limited spoke on the occasion.
For the first time in its history, Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) has launched money transfer services early last month for quick transferring of remittances to the beneficiaries.
Now, the specialized bank is operating the modern services through all its 378 branches in 16 districts under Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions in association with Xpress Money Services Ltd and International Money Express (IME).
In his remarks, RAKUB Managing Director Monzur Ahmed mentioned that discipline is necessary for attaining the goal of any organization. It covers administrative as well as financial discipline.
So, this will be maintained at all levels of our operation. He says foreign Exchange business is considered to be very much important, for, it is a huge revenue earning source of the banking business now-a-days.
But our Foreign Exchange business is not up to the mark. Emphasis will be given for doing foreign exchange business independently through strengthening the Foreign Exchange department, keeping an eye, of course, on the recent scam that unsettled the banking arena in the recent past.
