DBBL, Seven Circle sign mobile salary payment deal

Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd (DBBL) and Seven Circle, Bangladesh Ltd have recently signed an agreement on mobile banking services at the DBBL head office, says a press release. The agreement was signed by Mohammed Ali Pasha, managing director of Seven Circle, Bangladesh Ltd, and Mir Mominul Huq, head of mobile banking division of DBBL.

Under this agreement, employees of Seven Circle, Bangladesh will receive their monthly salaries and commission in their DBBL mobile banking accounts.

After receiving their salaries in their mobile accounts, employees will be able to withdraw or deposit cash from any nearby agent, DBBL branches and ATMs, transfer money to other mobile accounts, buy goods and services from retailers and pay utility bills throughout the country.

K S Tabrez, managing director and Md Sayedul Hasan, deputy managing director of Dutch-Bangla Bank, Md. Ashrafuzzaman,  general manager (finance and accounts) and Abdullah Al Mamun Khan, manager (finance) of Seven Circle, Bangladesh, were also present.

Taka gains against dollar, slightly

The local currency appreciated by more than Tk 0.20 against the dollar this week after a slight depreciation in the past week, central bank and treasury officials said.

Inter-bank exchange rate set by the dealer banks was quoted at Tk 81.70 yesterday, down from Tk 81.93 on Tuesday last.

However, the average exchange rate of the greenback declined by only Tk 0.04 to Tk 82.36 at customer levels (for import payments) from Tk 82.40 on T

NCC bank re-elects audit, executive committee chairs

Mahbubul Alam Tara has been re-elected as chairman of the audit committee and Fakhrul Anwar as chairman of the executive committee of the NCC Bank board, the bank said in a statement yesterday.

Tara is a sponsor director and former chairman of the bank.

Fakhrul Anwar is the managing director of Golden Inn Chittagong, director of Federal Insurance

SME loan policy prioritises women entrepreneurs

RAJSHAHI: Women entrepreneurs were given priority to the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector loan policy for their economic emancipation.

They were also ensured of availing all sorts of existing loan facilities for poverty reduction and overall improvement of the nation.

Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) Abul Kashem revealed this while addressing a view-sharing meeting with bankers of the region at the BB’s Rajshahi Branch here yesterday as the chief guest with BB local branch General Manager Zinnatul Bakeya in the chair.

The BB’s SME Division organized the meeting marking distribution of SME loans among some entrepreneurs including women.

In his keynote paper, Joint Director (SME Division) of BB Ashraful Alam dwelt on the country’s SME investment scenario and BB’s adopted strategies to promote the sector furthermore.

EBL revamps priority banking

Eastern Bank Ltd (EBL) has revamped the priority banking proposition with more value added services and features.

The bank’s revamped priority banking was launched at EBL Consumer Night-2012 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka Saturday, said a press release.

EBL also awarded three of its valued clients - one of the earliest account openers, first EBL card holder and first EBL priority banking customer at the ceremony.

EBL Chairman M Gaziul Haque, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ali Reza Iftekhar, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Consumer Banking Muklesur Rahman, senior officials and large number of clients were present, among others, on the occasion.
