President vows to reach out to the unbanked population

Md Mehmood Husain, president and managing director of Bank Asia, speaks at a press meet marking the 12th anniversary of the bank at Hotel Purbani in Dhaka yesterday. Deputy Managing Directors Irteza Reza Chowdhury, Aminul Islam, SM Khorshed Alam and Mohammed Roshangir were also present.

Bank Asia, a leading private commercial Bank, yesterday celebrated its 12 years of operations.

As part of the celebrations, the Bank launched three new services: Smart Junior Saver Account and two new card systems.

Mehmood Husain, president and managing director of the Bank, said all efforts of the Bank are aimed at improving the socioeconomic condition of the country.

Bank Asia plans to reach out to the unbanked population by building rewarding relationships with customers, Husain said at an event at Hotel Purbani in Dhaka.

The Bank has already launched its UK Exchange House to remit money quickly to Bangladesh. It will open a new exchange house in New York.

The Bank helped the SME sector flourish and supported women entrepreneurs with loans, Husain said.
Bank Asia is the country's first private bank to take over operations of foreign banks -- Canadian Nova Scotia and Muslim Commercial Bank of Pakistan.

Bank Asia is the country's only bank that has its own software development firm, IRA. It has developed banking software, also used by Standard Bank, Sonali Bank and nine other banks.

Bank Asia started its operation as a scheduled commercial bank in 1999. It has 56 branches, two agri-branches, nine SME service centres and five Islamic windows.
