IBBL organises annual business confce

Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) arranged its annual business development conference in the city yesterday.

Mohammad Abdul Mannan, managing director of the Bank, presided over the conference, said a press release.

Dr AB Mirza Azizul Islam, former finance advisor of a caretaker government, made a speech on ‘Challenges in 2012 in the field of financial sector’ on the second day of the conference.

Prof Mohammed Nazrul Islam, Humayun Bokhteyar, ACPA, FCA and professor Dr NRM Borhan Uddin, directors, Mohd Shamsul Haque, Md Habibur Rahman, Md Nurul Islam, Muhammad Abul Bashar, SMA Saleh and Md Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan, FCA, deputy managing directors of the Bank, top executives, zonal heads and 266 branch managers of the Bank, were also present on the occasion.

BASIC Bank opens branch at Banani

Sheikh Abdul Hai Bacchu, chairman of BASIC Bank, inaugurates a new branch of the Bank at Banani in the city yesterday.

BASIC Bank has opened its 46th branch at Banani in the city yesterday.

Sheikh Abdul Hai Bacchu, chairman of the Bank, inaugurated the branch while Kazi Fakrul Islam, managing director, presided over the inaugural function, said a press release.

While inaugurating the branch, Sheikh Abdul Hai Bacchu said it is not possible to achieve the target for the country’s economical development without spreading banking services to rural areas.

To accelerate the country’s economical growth, BASIC Bank has taken an initiative to open at least one branch in every district across the country, he said.

Jahangir Akand Selim, Sree Jukta Shuvashis Basu, directors of the bank, Prof Dr. Abu Yousuf Md Abdullah, educationist and business person and other high officials of the Bank were also present at the function.

BB directs scheduled banks to use web portal

Bangladesh Bank (BB) directed the scheduled banks to submit their daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and half-yearly statements by using Rationalized Input Temple (RTI) at web portal.

The central bank already completed the implementation works of Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) at the department of offsite supervision.

The circular, issued on Tuesday from the department of offsite supervision, said December 31, 2011, beginning day of sending the EDW related information or statements, should be considered as base date and therefore the submission must end by 31st of March this year.

It also directed the banks to collect the list of statements related to department of offsite supervision under EDW and connect soft copies of RIT within January 26, 2012.

After filling the RITs properly, it will have to be submitted regularly to BB through web portal but the system of submission through both the existing mode and web portal will simultaneously be running till June 30 this year.

EBL gets $20m loan from German financier

Philipp Kreutz, member of the management board of German Investment and Development Company (DEG); Herbert Baumgartner, director of DEG representative office in Bangkok; and Ali Reza Ifthekhar, managing director of Eastern Bank (EBL), ink a deal under which EBL will get a loan of $20 million, at the Westin Dhaka on Monday.

The German Investment and Development Company (DEG) has recently extended a long term loan of $20 million to Eastern Bank (EBL) through its offshore banking unit.

The liquidity created out of this USD loan will be utilised to finance small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and industries in export processing zones, EBL said in a statement yesterday.

Philipp Kreutz, member of the management board of DEG; Herbert Baumgartner, director of DEG representative office in Bangkok; and Ali Reza Ifthekhar, managing director of EBL, inked an agreement in this regard at a ceremony at the Westin Dhaka on Monday.

Supporting SME growth in the developing countries is one of DEG's strategic goals, and this facility to EBL will be a milestone to achieve the goal in Bangladesh, said Kreutz.

DEG finances investments of private companies in developing and transition countries.
