Islami Bank’s board of directors has removed Syed Ahsanul Alam from his post of vice-chairman, reports bdnews24.com
The latest shake-up in the country’s most profitable bank occurred at its 34th annual general meeting at the Kurmitola Golf Club on Tuesday.

“We have two vice-chairmen at Islami Bank,” said Chairman Arastoo Khan after the event. “From now, there will be only one — Yousif Abdullah Al-Rajhi.”

Prof Alam, a Chittagong University teacher, will no longer be a vice-chairman, but will stay on as an independent director, according to Khan.

In a statement, Alam claimed that non-shareholders had been ‘hired’ to vote for the measure at the meeting.

“I have no words to describe the poisonous actions taken against some of the respected directors.”

The media saw the “unprecedented theatrics” at the event for themselves, he said.

Alam said the chairman, the managing director and the company secretary of Islami Bank were violating central bank regulations and would lead the institution to its ‘destruction’

“There is no point in being a director at the bank if nothing can be done to stop it.”
