Hefty imports to cut Ramadan prices: BB

The upcoming Ramadan will see two to four times more imports of rice, sugar and cooking oil, compared to last year, which will help contain the price spirals of essentials during the fasting month, according to a Bangladesh Bank (BB) statement issued yesterday.

Mohammad Aminul Haque has recently been elected chairman of Prime Bank at the bank's 363rd meeting in Dhaka.
The Board of Directors of the bank also elected MA Khaleque and Mafiz Ahmed Bhuiyan as vice-chairmen. All of them were sponsor directors of the bank.

Foreign currency reserve marks fall by $ 1b

The country’s foreign currency reserve marked a fall by US$ 1 billion over a year to US$ 10431.23 million as on May 31, although it saw a jump in remittance inflows. In April this year, the reserve was US$ 11316.44 million, according to Bangladesh Bank statistics released on Thursday.
