EXIM Bank gets new AMD

Mohammed Haider Ali Miah has recently been promoted as the additional managing director (AMD) of the Export Import Bank of Bangladesh Ltd (EXIM), said a statement.

Prior to this promotion, he was the deputy managing director of the bank and performed his duty as head of various departments such as corporate banking, human resources division, information technology, law and recovery division, merchant banking division, credit card division and public relations division.

Miah started his banking career as a probationary officer in Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd (IBBL) in 1984.

Trust Bank, Teletalk sign deal on mobile banking

Trust Bank Ltd recently signed an agreement with Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd to enable a mobile banking service titled ‘My Bank at My Mobile’.

By introducing the service, Trust Bank wishes to spread its banking services and bring the underprivileged and excluded population under the banking network, said a press release.

Ishtiaque Ahmed Chowdhury, deputy managing director of Trust Bank and Md Habibur Rahman, general manager (Marketing) of Teletalk Bangladesh signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations during a function at the head office Trust Bank.

Shah Alam Sarwar, managing director and chief executive officer of Trust Bank and Md. Mujibar Rahman, managing director of Teletalk were also present on the occasion.

Following the agreement, the services of ‘Trust Mobile Money’ will be available for the customers of Teletalk.

Trust Bank is in the process of signing agreements with other telecom operators to for further spreading of the mobile banking service.

Krishi Bank opens branch in Sylhet

The 969th branch of Bangladesh Krishi Bank was opened at Tajpur Bazar in Sylhet on Thursday.

Finance Minister Abul Mall Abdul Muhith inaugurated the branch as chief guest.

Managing director of the bank Mohammad Mukter Hussain presided over the inaugural function. Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury MP of Sylhet-2 was present at the function as special guest.

Deputy commissioner of Sylhet Abu Syed Mohammad Hasheem, upazila chairman of Balaganj Mostakur Rahman Mofur and divisional general manager of the bank Nitai Chand Das, among other local elites and officials of bank, were present at the function.

The World Bank to help monga-affected women

The World Bank is supporting Bangladesh in developing the proposed Northern Areas Reduc-tion-of-Poverty Initiative (NARI) project that aims to economically empower poor and vulnerable women from monga-prone areas of northwestern region.

The vulnerable women of the region will be facilitated their access to job opportunities in the ready-made garment sector in the Export Processing Zones (EPZ).

The garment industry in Bangladesh has contributed to women’s empowerment significantly, and has provided symbolic and economic benefits to poor and vulnerable women, said a press release. — UNB

BB-BD Finance deal on SME refinancing

Bangladesh Bank (BB) and Bangladesh Finance and Investment Co Ltd (BD Finance) signed an agreement on re-financing the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector.

Under the agreement, the central bank will finance Bd Finance from the ADB Fund for providing loans to SME projects.

Sukomal Singha Chowdhury, general manager of Bangladesh Bank and GM Salehuddin Ahmed, managing director and CEO of BD Finance signed on behalf of their respective oranizations, said a press release.

High officials of SME and special programmes department of BB and deputy managing director, company secretary and senior officials of BD Finance were also present at the signing ceremony.
