Gouranga Chakraborty was recently promoted to Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bank.

Before his new assignment, Gouranga Chakraborty was the General Manager of Credit Information Bureau of the central bank, said a press release Thursday.

Chakraborty started his career with the Bangladesh Bank as an Assistant Director in 1980 and served it in various departments.

Earlier, he was System Manager of IT Operation and Communications Department.

Gouranga played a pioneering role in BB automation as project manager of IT packages financed by the World Bank and CIB online project financed by the UKaid.

He has 32 years of extensive and versatile central banking experience in managing critical supervisory issues of the banking sector.

Chakraboty obtained his masters degree in statistics with honors from Dhaka University. He has completed 17-month advanced course on IT in Munich, Germany.

He also visited Malaysia, Hong Kong, Nepal, Italy, Czechoslovakia and to attend different important seminars and workshops.
