New top brass for City Bank

Rubel Aziz
City Bank has recently elected Rubel Aziz as its chairman and Meherun Haque as vice chairperson, the Bank said in a statement yesterday.
The election took place in a recent board meeting of the Bank, the statement added.
Aziz is the managing director of Partex Group companies, including Partex Beverage, Partex Jute Mills, Partex Plastics, Partex Accessories; and director of Amber Cotton Mills, Partex Sugar Mills, Partex Denim Ltd.
He is also the chairman of Janata Insurance Company, director of IDLC Finance, vice chairman of ITCL (Q-Cash) and the president of Gulshan Club.
Haque is a sponsor director of Phoenix Insurance Company.

Sonali Bank opens new Branch

Anti-money laundering workshop held
Prime Bank central compliance unit of the Internal Control and Compliance Division of head office organised a workshop on ‘Anti-Money Laundering and Anti Terrorist Financing’ at IBB Amberkhana branch of the bank in Sylhet on November 26, says a press release.
Muhammad Yasin Ali, deputy managing director of the Bank, inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest. Abu Hena Mohd Razee Hassan, executive director and Nirmal Chandra Bhakta, general manager of the Sylhet office of Bangladesh Bank, were present.
Vice president Md Aminul Islam, chief money laundering prevention and compliance officer of Prime Bank, was also present. VP Md Abdus Shukur, head of IBB Amberkhana branch, presided over the training workshop. A total of 46 officers and executives participated at the workshop.

Banks allowed to hire agents
Bangladesh Bank (BB) will allow commercial banks to serve clients through agents, apart from their own employees. A BB circular Wednesday, however, says that in case the banks choose to offer door-to-door service to their clients, they would have to bear the risks.
